Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant support from management,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Club Management

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
