British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up this year's campaign and has decided to continue with coach for 2026.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three out of four major tournaments this year.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the last two tournaments in 2025 due to a health issue she has been battling over the past 10 days.
Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
Her upcoming training will involve trainer Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering again next season.
Raducanu had her blood pressure taken during her first-round match with Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and withdrew when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
She again required a doctor's assessment at the recent Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the opening round.
Raducanu was also moving far from freely in the final set versus Zhu because of the lower back problem that has troubled her at times this year.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which the player advanced into the world's top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.
Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by Pegula in the third round in the Beijing tournament last month.
Raducanu won twenty-eight matches during 2025 and advanced to the semis in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami event in March.
Ranked first in Britain reached the quarter-finals of this WTA 1000 tournament, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route then falling in a three-set match to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was until the end of the season but the partnership will continue, with a training block pencilled in late this year.
She mentioned that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
She came very close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three then falling to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
