Recent details have emerged regarding the untimely demises of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.

The Discovery

According to a report quoting a person close to the family, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after not being able to enter the house. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.

Upon entering the house, Romy came upon her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Following this, emergency responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Legal Charges

Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, including the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently being held and denied bail.

Disputed Reports

The person close to the family challenged several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a separate structure on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.

The source also refuted published claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in recent weeks. The source claimed the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

This correction applies to descriptions of reportedly "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a party thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. While the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that reports of a "major confrontation" between the two were not correct.

Ongoing Inquiry Timeline

Per law enforcement sources, the coroner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some media reports indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for a period of time.

Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, some 15 miles from the family home. He was due to appear in court on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
