The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."

He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for further series.

However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
