The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
