The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
